which scales ?
Hi, i've been using a few different kinds of digital scales over the past few
years on a very regular basis. I started out with the palmscale 5.0. They did
seem very adequate for a while however i did start to experience some probs.
occassionally they would give slightly different readings if i tried to weigh
something, remove a bit of the weight, then weigh again it would sometimes give
a different reading to what it should be. Generally they seemed to deteriate in
their accuracy. I then bought some Tangent 102's. Again they seemed to work well
and over time deteriate. These are what i am currently using and very recently
became quite non-consistent with their readings. I would again weigh something
for example 10grams using an object on them once they were teared. Then i would
weigh out 4grams, and the remaining weight then read 5.7. Therefore there is
something going wrong. I have regularly changed the batteries therefore this
could not be the cause. I had been considering buying some tanitas as i thought
they were generally very reliable and accurate. After having read the reviews of
them on digitalscale.com i understand the originals are out-dated and newer
versions such as the 1479s have some bad points. I then noticed there are now
palmscale 6.0's which were very highly rated and a practical size/shape etc(i
did also like the tray which was useful wheni had the 5.0's). However there
didn't seem to be any criticisms of the 5.0's... I've seen that the Axe 2's got
the 2007 scale of the year award. I don't really require some functions such as
2screens, but if theyre good that doesnt matter.... I am basically looking for
professional advice on which you feel would be the best buy in respect to these
kinds of scales. I am looking for some reliable, consistent and accurate scales.
I would very much appreciate any advice you can give. Thank you
Luke

If I understand your
If I understand your question correctly you are looking for a scale that will be
accurate for the long term - not just the short term.
A lot of that will
depend on how you treat the scale itself. If you can keep the scale in the same
location and not move it around much it will last a lot longer, perhaps
"forever". The AXE or AXE2 would be a good choice only because it uses a
U-Shaped loadcell which would in theory last a lot longer without distortion
then a normal rectangular load cell.
However, if you really want the
absolute best and have it last forever then we'd all say to get a Vibrating Wire
scale but that will cost you a couple thousand dollars
