This digital pocket scale is quite small.   We really like the way the cover slides off of the scale and can be used as a tray.  This came in very handy when we were weighing lead shot balls – the cover is rounded on 3 sides so we could easily use the cover as a “scoop” to pick up the lead shot, weigh it, and then empty the contents into a zip lock bag.  This slide-off cover is actually more practical then any of the folding covers commonly used in pocket scales.

Our latest test scale was one of the new version 3.0 scales.   The difference between the new 3.0 and the older MX-200 is that the new one has totally different components that make this scale more accurate and durable then before.  The 3.0 uses the new FSCII microchip that has the A/D converter built right into the chip.  The Load cell is bonded with four HBM (Germany) precision sensors  This makes the 3.0 incredibly fast and accurate with no detectable drift whatsoever.   Calibration was a snap and so was changing modes. 

Overall:  Big thumbs up! 

This scale is the best valued per dollar pocket scale we ever tested.  It blew away every scale in its class that we compared it against.  It even beat scales that were supposedly out of its class (A&D PV100, Ohaus HP120,  Tanita 1479V, Nexus 100 and more!).   If you’re looking for a value scale,  the MX200 is certainly the best scale for the money that we’ve ever tested.

Recommendations:  For owners of the MX120/200 we recommend changing the batteries with the cover halfway on.  What we learned was that if you leave the sliding cover partially installed,  then remove the battery cover,  it helps to protect the scale from accidental overload during battery replacement.   The MX runs on 3 AAA batteries so it is unlikely you’ll have to change them more then once each year.
